Battery Charging

As I hike and ski, it is always a challenge how to provide electrical energy to the the various electronic devices that we carry. The methods we have chosen are solar, wind, and hand crank generators. The season guides the practical choices. I have a flexible solar panel rated at 700 mA. We have compact wind generators outputting 500 mA. Also we use a hand crank generator outputting 1 amp at 6 volts. If you are cool sitting in the tent cranking the generator for 5 minutes certainly warms you up.The battery types we charge are nicads and lithium batteries. The devices requiring batteries are handhelds, HF rigs (FT-817 and White Mnt 80 M SSB) and video cameras. One particularly windy location is the Sentinel Glacier. During winter storms very high winds provide virtually unlimited power. The pictures shows the wind generator at the Great Inland Sea.
